Women's Ministries

Bethel's Women's Ministry consists of groups geared for the needs and interests of women. They are open to all women. this ministry is overseen by the Women's Coordinating Council which seeks to represent all women of Bethel from a variety of groups such as the 20 Women's Circles, Mom's Club, Church Ladies, Lydia's House and Bethel Bookwomen. It is also a link to the South Central Synodical Wisconsin Women's Organization, as well as to the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. The purpose of the Council is to share information about projects, programs, and missions and to share concerns of the women of the church. The women's groups represented on this Council support missions throughout the Madison community and the world through monetary contributions; quilt making, layette, and health, and school kits.

Women's Retreat : Women in the Church

Friday, April 30 to Saturday, May 1, 2010

Held at Bethel Horizons | Website

Presentation by Dr. Elizabeth (Beth) Leeper, Adjunct Faculty in Church History at Wartburg Theological Seminary. Prior to this, she served on the faculty as Associate Professor in Church History for 20 years. Throughout most of our Christian tradition, women have remained in the background. With the exception of a few medieval mystics, little is known of their role in Christian history or place in the Church. During this retreat we shall examine the ways in which women have traditionally been regarded by the “Church Fathers,” explore how women actually have been part of the Church, and get to know a few individual women through their writings. This will be a time learning, enrichment, and fun!

The retreat will include:

• One night stay in the Prairie Center

• Two invigorating presentations

• Friday night dinner

• Saturday breakfast and lunch

• “Breakfast for the Birds” presentation with Eric Volden

• Crafts • Yoga • Massage • Nature hikes

• Worship

• Skits, games, snacks and other fun

LWR Fair Trade Coffee Project | Link

The LWR Fair Trade Coffee Project ensures that more of the money you spend on coffee reaches the farmers who actually grow it. Fair trade coffee is a simple solution that means the difference—quite literally—between surviving and not surviving for small-scale coffee farmers.

LWR Health Kits | Link

People who must flee their homes quickly often do not have time to pack essential items. Health kits can help refugees maintain personal hygiene while living in exile. Items may also contribute to a new start for those who can return home.

LWR Layette Kits | Link

In refugee camps, hospitals, and villages around the world, gifts of layettes convey a warm welcome to newborns and their mothers.

A school kit may provide the only supplies for children returning to school after the disruption of war. School kits help parents continue their children's education, even while living in a refugee camp, for example. A school kit may also be used in adult literacy classes.
